Self-awareness is a term that most people can’t define. I’ve heard a few characteristics that fit the term and I’ll share those here, don’t think that I’m limiting the definition to these statements only providing a guiding path from things I’ve heard.
You avoid acting on impulse and can name what you’re feeling in the moment or at least can name what you’re not feeling.
You can absorb your thinking patterns without being restricted by them. You can decide what you are going to allow to occupy your mind.
When accused you consider other angles of the situation to understand the accuser instead of deflecting or becoming defensive. You then take accountability for your mistakes, even if parts of the accusation are inaccurate.
You consider how you are affecting others as well as considering your own long term goals and vision. You use that to help determine you actions, words and even thoughts.
You can identify your weaknesses and your strengths in any situations and you don’t overly focus on either.
